Allaah Praised and Exalted be He says:
“And We will surely try you with something of fear and hunger and reduction of possessions and lives and fruits. But give glad tidings to the patient.”
al-Baqarah 155
The Messenger of Allaah Allaah’s prayers and peace be upon him has said:
“Strange is the situation of the believer. Indeed, every situation is a favor to him, and it belongs to no one except the believer. When something good befalls him, he is grateful and it will be a favor to him. And when something bad strikes him, he is patient and it will also be a favor to him. “1
Anas ibn Maalik narrates:
“The Prophet Allaah’s prayers and peace be upon him passed by a woman who was crying at the foot of a grave. He said to her, “Fear Allaah and be patient!” And she answered him, “Leave me alone! Verily, you have not been affected by that which has affected me!” She did not know who he was. When they told her that it was about the Prophet Allaah’s prayers and peace be upon him, she went to his house, but she found no doorman there. She exclaimed: ” I did not know who you were.” He replied, “Indeed, patience is only at the first shock. “2
